Paris Speaks

Wed Feb 13
Paris is the city in which one loves to live. Sometimes I think this is because it is the only city in the world where you can step out of a railway station—the Gare D’Orsay—and see, simultaneously, the chief enchantments: the Seine with its bridges and bookstalls, the Louvre, Notre Dame, the Tuileries Gardens, the Place de la Concorde, the beginning of the Champs Elysees—nearly everything except the Luxembourg Gardens and the Palais Royal. But what other city offers as much as you leave a train? Margaret Anderson
The City of Lights

The City of Lights

Art is contemplation. It is the pleasure of the mind which searches into nature and which there divines the spirit of which nature herself is animated. Auguste Rodin
For me, a landscape does not exist in its own right, since its appearance changes at every moment; but the surrounding atmosphere brings it to life - the light and the air which vary continually. For me, it is only the surrounding atmosphere which gives subjects their true value. Claude Monet

A World of Beauty

Paris is the most captivating city in the world. Everywhere you look you are surrounded by history and beautiful works of art. Being a lover of the arts, Paris offers a place to travel back in time and become absorbed in the numerous amounts of famous paintings and sculptures.

Not only does Paris have some of the most outstanding galleries in the world, but art is also exhibited throughout the city parks. Paris is not only the home to famous paintings, but is a work of art in itself. The world of art is a part of Paris, and you can feel the history as you walk up and down the streets.

Musée D’orsay is my favourite museum because it contains the works of Impressionists. Impressionism was a  major movement that developed in France during the late 19th century. It was an attempt to accurately and objectively record visual reality in terms of transient effects of light and colour. Impressionist art is based on the use of colour, which has to draw the motive without resorting to line. My favourite impressionist painter is Claude Monet. He was born in Paris in 1840. Monet is recognized as being one of the creators of Impressionism. His paintings capture scenes of middle-class life, and the ever changing qualities of sunlight in nature. His technique of applying bright, unmixed colours in quick, short strokes became a hallmark of impressionism.

Monet’s paint brush was an extension of his body. His brushstrokes are full of movement and energy, expressing the way he felt at that particular time.

Paris is the most creative and inspiring city in the world. A place that I love not just for the endless amounts of cafés and wonderful French cuisine, but for the rich works of art. It truly is the most outstanding city.
